Wrecks on 1-20 cause major delays in Longview, Gregg County
Staff reports

Drivers are advised to avoid going east on Interstate 20 in Gregg County.

According dispatchers with the Gregg County Sheriff's office, there are four wrecks on I-20, backing up traffic. Some are in the county and others are in the city of Longview. They said none of the accidents are severe, but they are causing major delays.

The delays are worse going eastbound, and moderate for westbound traffic.

Today is one of the heaviest travel days in the state, according to AAA Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety offered the following tips for save travel during the Thanksgiving holiday:

Travel Tips
Don't drink and drive. Designate a driver or take a cab.

Eliminate distractions, and don't text while driving.

Buckle up everyone in the vehicle — it's the law.

Slow down — especially in bad weather, construction areas and heavy traffic.

Slow down or move over for tow trucks and police, fire and EMS vehicles stopped on the side of the road with emergency lights activated — it's the law.

Don't drive fatigued.

Drive defensively, as holiday travel may present additional challenges.

Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained before your trip begins.
