2 business expansions to bring in funds to Whitehouse

The expansion of two Whitehouse businesses is expected to bring in more sales at both locations and help with economic development, City Manager Mike Peterson said.

A Dollar General store is moving from a shopping center to a stand-alone location at Hagan Road and Texas Highway 110.

Peterson said it will be a large store with about 12,000 square feet of space. Site preparation already is under way.

On the other side of Texas 110 from the Dollar General will be Mike's Wholesale, which is moving to a larger 20,000-square-foot facility.

The business will be retail, but it also does wholesale for convenience stores, Peterson said. He described it as a combination of a party store and Sam's Club “with all the trinket stuff you see at check-out stands at convenience stores.” Final work is now being done at that location.

Peterson expects the Dollar General store will be finished within three or four months and Mike's Wholesale will be ready by the first of the year.

Once both projects are up and going, he said they will have a positive impact on Whitehouse.

“It's two businesses that are expanding, so the best thing is we're retaining those businesses in the city, and they're enlarging their space, so we're anticipating there will be increased business and increased sales at both locations,” Peterson said.

“The good thing is they didn't decide to move their businesses somewhere else. Retaining businesses is just as important a phase of economic development as getting a new business to come in. We look at this as very positive — the fact that Dollar General wanted to build a new stand-alone store and Mike's needed larger space. We're excited about both these projects.”
