Wreck claims woman's life and Tyler police investigating

Tyler police are investigating a fatal wreck that happened about 11:10 pm. Friday on Texas Highway 271, officials said.

Authorities said a Chevrolet truck driven by a 23-year-old man drove across the median northbound into opposing traffic, striking a minivan traveling south.
Police said the van’s driver, Nancy Dale Slagle, of Athens, died in the crash.
The passenger, William Eugene Slagle, also of Athens, was taken to East Texas Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the truck, Eduardo Flores, was treated at Mother Francis Hospital and released.
He was booked into Smith County Jail for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
Arraignment is pending.
