Sheriff's office choir to hold benefit concert

The Sounds of Smith County Sheriff’s Office Gospel Choir will have a benefit concert for Dorian Timmons at 6 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church, 2506 N. Broadway Ave.

Dorian Timmons was injured in a helmet to helmet collision during football practice for Chapel Hill High School. He was taken to East Texas Medical Center. Dorian has since been flown to Children’s Hospital in Dallas. Dorian’s mother, Tracey, is employed at Smith County Sheriff’s Office and is a member of the Sounds of Smith County Sheriff’s Office Gospel Choir.

All proceeds will go to the Timmons medical expense fund, and the Dorian Timmons Tragedy account has been established at Southside Bank.


HOLLY BROOK BAPTIST
Holly Brook Baptist Church Sunday School members are participating in Holiday Mail for Heroes by sending uplifting Christmas cards to be delivered to the deployed and recovering wounded military troops.

The project is part of a nationwide project to show support to the U.S. military.

Deadline for submitting cards to the Holly Brook military support group is Nov. 25.

Cards will be screened by Pitney Bowes and reviewed by American Red Cross volunteers around the country.

The Holly Brook Baptist Church missions team also is sponsoring Christmas shoe boxes for the children at Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Brownsville.

Participants must return shoe boxes filled with toys and other items for children to the church no later than Nov. 25.

Clothing for adults and children also will be accepted this year for distribution in Brownsville and in Mexico.

WEST UNION BAPTIST
West Union Baptist Church will celebrate its 132nd church anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The theme is “Becoming A Purpose-Driven Church,” referencing Proverbs 19:21.

Pastor Keith Parkes and Beluah Baptist Church are the special guests. The public is invited. Rodney Angton is the pastor of West Union Baptist Church.

Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church will host a gospel music concert featuring the Melody Boys Quartet at 6 p.m. today at 417 County Road 1143 (Dixie Drive). Call 903-592-7183 for more information.

SHAD Y GROVE BAPTIST
The Shady Grove Baptist Church will hold its 118th church anniversary program at 3 p.m. Sunday at 12480 Farm-to-Market Road 14 in Tyler. The Rev. J. C. Watkins, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church in Longview, is the guest speaker.
