Tyler woman found unharmed
A 911 call Thursday morning was met with an army of police who quickly responded to a report of a missing person on Iberville Drive in Tyler.
Officers began with the basic questions such as age, height, weight, hair color, clothing and when the 83-year-old woman was last seen.
As they gleaned more information, the officers knew they were looking for a woman with some medical conditions, and as some patrol units began searching neighboring areas, a plan was set in place to start a grid by grid search.
Tyler Police Training Officer Doyle Lynch said the plan unfolded just as it should.
“We notified the Tyler Transit bus drivers, local cab companies, area businesses, hospitals and even posted it on Facebook,” he said.
Lynch said his department issued a Silver Alert, much like an Amber Alert, which puts out identifying information about the missing individual in efforts to find them.

But Tyler police also initiated its Red Alert, which automatically calls residents and businesses with a pre-recorded message.
Texas Department of Public Safety and Smith County officials joined in the search.

Hours later, a patrol unit found the woman walking in the 3200 block of Silverwood Drive, less than a mile from her home.
Police were elated they found the woman safe and said everything went according to plan.
“She is OK and is being checked out by EMS, but she appears to be fine,” Lynch said.
