Rivers will be the headline performer in the “Act II: Continuing a Tradition of Excellence” at 7 p.m. at the Lindale ISD Performing Arts Center, according a news release issued by the district. The event is sponsored by RealEdge Real Estate-Lindale.
“I want to see the tradition of excellence Lindale ISD is known for continue and see students have the same opportunities that I did and even more,” Rivers said in the release. “My dream is that the dream continues. I want every child, every teenager to have the same opportunities to succeed and continue that tradition of excellence.”
Saturday’s fine arts showcase will include performances from students of all ages, including poetry, pose readings, theatrical performances, dancing and singing. At the end of the evening, Rivers is expected to put on a 30-minute show and will be joined on stage by Lindale’s middle and high school choirs.
Proceeds will benefit the education foundation, which works to provide grants to teachers. Since the program began in 2009, the foundation has awarded more than $95,600 for innovative classroom projects.
Rivers graduated from Lindale High School in 2001, and in 2006 competed in the USA Network’s “Nashville Star” in which he finished as runner-up, the release states.
He worked with the band “Beyond the Ashes” and was nominated for two Dove Music Awards in 2012. The group traveled nationwide to more than 200 dates each year and earned several top 10 Christian music singles, but Rivers announced plans to pursue a solo career in July, the release states.
“Lindale set a foundation for me, as I think they do for all the students,” Rivers said. “The coaches and teachers I had growing up were great. Lindale has always been very dominant in the education world, always winning some type of academic award. I am thankful I was a part of such a recognized education system.”
