Tyler ISD elementary students will have the opportunity to experience a classical concert with a twist free of charge this weekend thanks to a generous donation.

The East Texas Symphony Orchestra, with the help of two underwriters, is offering free tickets to the 2 p.m. matinee performance of Cirque de la Symphonie and the ETSO at the UT Tyler Cowan Center. ETSO representatives said this event will be a unique event, providing students the often rare opportunity to be both entertained as well as educated.

“It's a combination of wanting to introduce these students to a symphony orchestra and to provide them the unique opportunity of experiencing a live concert in a concert hall,” Kathy Housby, ETSO director of patron services, said.

The concert will feature the orchestra performing classical compositions as the dancers, contortionists and acrobats of Cirque de la Symphonie perform in tandem.

The donation comes gratis of the Lightner Sams Foundation and D.M. Edwards.

A limited number of tickets are available to be given away. Students or their parents must directly contact their elementary school's music teacher to acquire them. Tickets will be distributed at the teacher's discretion and on a first come, first served basis.

For additional information, contact ETSO at 903-526-3876.
