Lindale mobile home "complete loss" in Tuesday fire
Although a man attempted to save his neighbors' mobile home from flames, firefighters called the home a total loss Tuesday night.
Lindale Assistant Fire Chief Clay Williamson said the department received a structure fire call at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday in the 8100 block of U.S. Highway 69 north, about a mile and a half from Loop 323.
Williams said no one was home at the time of the fire that is believed to have started in the home's north bedroom, which was heavily damaged. The first fire engine on the scene doused the flames, he said.
"It's a complete loss," he said "It would cost more to fix than it would to replace."
Neighbor Mike Davidson, 47, of Tyler called 911.
"I don't know what called me outside, but I came outside and saw it burning," he said.
Davidson said flames were outside the bedroom window and peeking through the front door.
Davidson said he volunteered for the Lindale Volunteer Fire Department in the 1980s, so he picked up a water hose near the bedroom window and began dousing flames while waiting for the department to respond.
He said his neighbor mentioned he was going to move out of the home, but had been returning every couple of days to feed his dogs.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
