Fire claims old tools, car
A Monday evening fire that destroyed a barn full of antiques and a car did not cause any injuries.
Bullard and Noonday fire departments responded to the fire north of Flint at 5:21 p.m.
Jonathan McClish, assistant chief of the Noonday Volunteer Fire Department, said a house, a second barn and two tractors were saved.
The homeowner, 91-year-old Woodrow Neely, said he was inside the house when his neighbor told him the barn caught fire.
He said a neighbor called 911.
“Everyone has been nice about it, the neighbors and all, “he said.
Neely said he has been a farmer all his life and moved into the home in the 1940s.
The barn was full of old hand tools his father used as a boy and hand-carved antiques, Neely said.
Neely said he is sad the heirlooms are gone but is thankful his house is intact.
As of press time, fire investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze. Crews were trying to find a recently filled butane tank before proceeding.
