Coalition forms to oppose Tyler ISD bond election

A coalition has formed to oppose the calling of a Tyler ISD bond election before the district deals with certain academic, student disciplinary and personnel issues, members said.

The “No More Excuses, Tyler ISD! Coalition” comprises leadership from the Grassroots America — We the People political action committee and other community members.

The coalition is requesting to have a public town-hall style meeting with the TISD school board to discuss its concerns.

They believe that new schools buildings will not solve problems and that the district must address academic, student discipline and personnel issues first.

TISD board members have been planning for a possible May 2013 bond election. They have until February to call it.

Tyler Proud, another community organization, already formed and supports passing a TISD bond election this school year.
