Area church to celebrate 165 years of fellowship
Staff Reports
Pirtle United Methodist Church will hold an Anniversary Homecoming Reunion and Thanksgiving Celebration on Sunday.
“For 165 years the church has served this community as the gathering place for community activity, and the spiritual epicenter,” according to a written release. “In celebration of this special anniversary, the rural church congregation invites all friends, former residents and those having previous connections with the church to a special celebration.”
At 10:30 a.m. a special celebratory service will be held, with a Thanksgiving meal following. The Thanksgiving meal to follow will be catered by Charlotte Gossage.
On June 7, 2009, the local church re-constituted as a newly united fellowship, welcoming the believers from its sister church at Laird Hill. Since combining the two ministries, the new church has flourished, providing a multitude of mission and ministry opportunities throughout the community.
“This was a stabilizing function to provide ministry to this rural community,” according to the written release.
The Rev. Dudley Plaisance will bring the message that morning as well as highlight the history of the church and community.
