'Tee Off for Toys' tournament to benefit Salvation Army Angel Tree program
Tyler Professional Firefighters Association will host the second annual “Tee Off for Toys” golf tournament on Monday at the Hideaway Lake Golf Course. The four player scramble benefits The Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree program.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a putting contest at 9:30 a.m. and an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Prizes will be given for first place, second place, third place, closest to the pin and longest drive.

“The Salvation Army believes that Christmas should be a time of celebration, joy, and hope, not discouragement, worry, and stress,” said Chantel Millin, community and corporate relations coordinator for The Salvation Army, in a written release.

Two years ago, more than 800 children’s names remained on the Angel Tree when the program ended just days before Christmas.

“The Tyler Professional Firefighters Association wants to make sure that never happens again and therefore organizes the annual golf tournament to benefit The Salvation Army in Tyler’s Angel Tree Program,” according to the written release.

Each Christmas season, children of low-income families are placed on the Angel Tree and community members who are financially able “adopt” the children for Christmas and purchase gifts for the angel they have selected.

“This program embodies the spirit of Christmas and enables the community to become neighbors to the less fortunate among us,” according to the written release. “But the important thing to remember is that none of these children will have presents to open on Christmas morning without the help of the community.”
