UPDATE: Stabbing suspect found, arrested

UPDATED Friday, November 9, 2012 at 1:09 p.m. CDT
Early this morning Investigators continued their search for Shawn Anthony Reep in the ShadyBrook subdivision near Lake Palestine.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. investigators checked a residence that Reep was known to frequent. Reep was not found in the house, but when Investigators checked a small travel trailer next to the residence, he was found hiding under a pile of blankets on the bed.

Reep offered no resistance when taken into custody and was transported to Cherokee County Jail on another outstanding arrest warrant for violation of a protective order - a Class A Misdemeanor - stemming from an incident that occurred several weeks earlier.

Charges are still pending for the offenses committed during both altercations yesterday.

Staff Reports

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help to find a man who authorities said fled after allegedly stabbing someone in the abdomen Thursday.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the ShadyBrook subdivision near Bullard.

The victim, identified as Joseph Johnson, 31, of Bullard, was stabbed in the abdomen and airlifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where he underwent emergency surgery, according to a statement released from the sheriff's office. As of 8:30 p.m., Johnson was in ICU recovering from surgery and in stable condition, the release states.

Investigators are looking for 31-year-old Shawn Anthony Reep in connection to the incident. He is still on the loose this morning, officials say.

Witnesses at the scene told authorities that Johnson went to a home in the 600 block of Elizabeth Drive with a friend. The suspect and two others were already at the residence in the front yard when Johnson arrived. Reep immediately recognized Johnson and approached him as he was getting out of the car, according to the news release. The two allegedly got into an argument, which ended when Reep stabbed Johnson at least one time, according to police.

Johnson was taken to a neighbor's house, and the neighbor called deputies and EMS.

Reep allegedly forced his way into the original home and threatened the homeowner with a knife.

According to police, the homeowner grabbed a display sword and hit Reep on the head, causing him to begin bleeding profusely. Reep then chased the homeowner from his residence and down the street, but failed to catch him, according to police. The extent of Reep's injuries were unknown as of press time.

When deputies and investigators began arriving in the area, Reep and two men drove away from the home, according to the release.

Reep abandoned the car three-fourths of a mile away and ran into the woods, but the other men remained near the car and were questioned at the scene.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice brought in a tracking dog and helped search until after 8 p.m. Reep has a parole warrant for his arrest, and additional charges are pending. Anyone who may know the location of Shawn Anthony Reep is encouraged to call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office at 903-683-2271.
