Greenville abduction scare deemed false alarm
Staff Reports

An alleged attempted abduction of a Greenville ISD student on Wednesday tur-ned out to be a false alarm, an investigation showed.

Greenville police were notified around 11 a.m. Thursday of a driver approaching a Greenville Middle School student and offering the female student a ride home, according to a statement released from Greenville ISD.

After watching video surveillance and conducting an investigation, the department determined the driver was a middle school parent, who mistook the female student for a friend’s grandchild, and was concerned she did not have a ride home from school on the early release day, according to the statement.

Last week, 16-year-old Alicia Chanta Moore was reported missing after she was dropped off from school. Her body was later found in a trunk near Wills Point, and the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

“We are proud of our student for reporting the situation and thankful to the Greenville Police Department for their quick and thorough investigation,” Kelli Tharp, director of community services, said in the statement. “Although this proved to be an innocent situation, we still request that students, parents and guardians remain watchful of their surroundings.”
