Rotary Club hopes to benefit students with trivia contest
A variety of teams will try their luck at trivia questions next week in Troup to benefit students.
The Troup Rotary Club is scheduled to host its annual trivia night contest at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Troup High School cafeteria. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Rotary Club member Bill Lacy said teams of up to six people will have nine rounds of questions to answer. They might be true/false, multiple choice or fill-in-the-blank.
There are "all kinds of different categories. Everyone should feel comfortable in at least one of the categories," Lacy said.
Once teams answer all the questions for a specific category, they will turn in answer sheets. While the answer sheets are being graded, a master of ceremonies will go through the answers so groups know how they're doing, Lacy said.
"It's a team effort. They just write down the answer they agree upon...," he said. "We'll put scores up after every round and keep a running total."
A winner is announced at the end of the night.
The cost is $75 per team. Lacy said teams that pay $90 will be able to answer an additional nine bonus questions, which could help a team come from behind to win. All proceeds go toward scholarships for Troup High School seniors. Last year, $10,000 in scholarships was given away with funds raised at trivia night and at the rotary club's art auction.
Lacy said a television also will be auctioned off during Tuesday's event, and refreshments will be available for purchase courtesy of the Troup High School culinary class.
Everyone is invited to bring a team.
"Just be ready for a fun night. All money goes toward a good cause," Lacy said.
