Challenge Quiz preliminaries begin for middle schoolers

The Park of East Texas Academic Rodeo kicked off the 2013 presentation on Tuesday with preliminary rounds in Academic Challenge Quiz for middle school students.

The Academic Challenge Quiz is a fast-paced contest in a quiz bowl format that tests the knowledge and thinking skills of middle school students.

The event is one of many academic and fine arts contests that make up the Academic Rodeo.

In the first Academic Challenge Quiz match, a three-way competition, All Saints Episcopal School took top honors, according to information provided by The Park of East Texas.

Arp Junior High School and Lindale’s E.J. Moss Intermediate School completed a tie-breaker round in which Arp won by one question.

In the second match, Edgewood Middle School had the top score, followed by Bullard Intermediate School.

All Saints, Arp, Edgewood and Bullard Intermediate move forward in the winner’s bracket of the match.

EJ Moss Intermediate and Murchison move into the consolation bracket with one loss each in the double-elimination tournament.

Two additional preliminary matches are scheduled for today with the remaining matches in the contest continuing in January with the other contests in the Academic Rodeo event.

Mindset Breaking Experience Preliminary rounds are scheduled for Friday at the fairgrounds.
