A Dallas medical examiner confirmed the body found in a trunk north of Wills Point Tuesday afternoon belongs to a missing 16-year-old Greenville teenager.
“Please know we have not received any notice and do not have any evidence of predators near our schools or buses,” the release states. “That being said, it is paramount that we remember to stay alert for any strange or suspicious person around our schools and buses. Please remind your children to be vigilant as they go to and from school. Our bus drivers are highly trained to stay alert and constantly scan their surroundings.”
Don Jefferies, superintendent of Greenville ISD, extended sympathy to Moore’s family and friends and said the campuses have grief counselors available for students.
Van Zandt County Sherriff Pat Burnett said a construction worker found a chest-type trunk on F.M. 47 around noon on Tuesday, and Moore was found inside.
“She was near a bridge,” he said. “She was on level ground behind the bridge railing.”
A cause of death has not yet been provided by the medical examiner’s office, according to a statement issued from the city of Greenville.
The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers and the Greenville Police Department are cooperating in the ongoing investigation.
“Everyone is kind of collecting evidence at the same time,” Burnett said.
