4 schools score high ACT marks, get award
The Texas ACT Council recognized four Smith County high schools with its 2012 College Readiness Award.
Robert E. Lee, Lindale, Whitehouse and Winona high schools were among the 170 high schools statewide to receive this award.
They are among 9 percent of the state's high schools to be selected for this honor.
The award honors those campuses that have increased student participation and improved student performance on the ACT over the past five years. The ACT is a national college admissions exam.
At Lee, 162 students took the ACT this year compared with 144 in 2008, according to data provided by the school.
The composite score for Lee's 2012 students was 22.1, almost 1 point higher than in 2008.
Lee exceeded the state average for composite scores both years.
At Lindale High School, 114 students took the ACT this year compared with 70 in 2008, according to a district news release.
The average ACT score was 22.4 this year compared with 20.2 five years ago.
Whitehouse and Winona also show improvement in both categories.
