American Bank recognizes Whitehouse High student

Whitehouse High School senior Jared Raabe is the first recipient of the American State Bank -- Academic Excellence Award.
A 4.0 student, Jared's extracurricular activities include: varsity football, varsity baseball (all-district), foreign language club (treasurer), UIL Academics Team (Physics, gold medal), and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (president, worship leader).
He also is a National Merit Semifinalist and scored a 2220 out of a possible 2400 on his SAT test, according to a bank news release.
Outside of school, Jared participates in his church youth group where he is on the leadership council and minister search team.
He also volunteers at BCXR Horse Center in Troup and helps maintain the soccer fields.
"Jared is not only smart, but he is an all-around excellent student," Whitehouse High School counselor Jinny Harris said, according to the news release. "He has worked hard to achieve so much, and he is very deserving of this award."
Tim Haugh, American State Bank general manager of consumer finance, said Jared is a great example of what hard work and determination can do.
"He had an extremely impressive nomination and beat out some very good students at other schools to win this award," Haugh said, according to the news release.
High school counselors at any of the 25 eligible schools can nominate seniors for this award.
The bank will select one award recipient every six weeks with all recipients recognized at an end-of-the-year banquet.
One recipient will receive a $10,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.
Eligible schools are All Saints, Arp, Athens, Big San-dy, Bishop T.K. Gorman, Brook Hill, Brownsboro, Bul-lard, Carlisle, Chapel Hill, Frank-ston, Grace Community, Haw-kins, Henderson, Jacksonville, John Tyler, Lee, Lindale, New Summerfield, Ov-er-ton, Troup, Van, West Rusk, Whitehouse and Winona.
