'Spooky' story appreciated
ROSES: Thanks to Faith Harper and the Tyler Paper for the most interesting story in Monday’s paper headlined, “Spooky things at the Beckham Hotel in Mineola.” Quite timely!

We were pleasantly surprised last week to get a phone call from her about doing a story on The Beckham Hotel and the spooky events that took place there.

The hotel has been a historic landmark and an important part of our history. Many visitors and local residents have enjoyed the restaurants that have been there through the years and also events in the ballroom.

John DeFoore, now owner of the hotel, has many interesting stories that have been related to him and also those he has experienced.

Several have commented to me about how they enjoyed it, and even today had an email from a relative of my husband who had read it and sent it on to another member of the family.

A check on the Internet indicated the story was run in several state newspapers. Wonderful publicity for Mineola on a story well written by Faith.

We also want to thank the Tyler Paper for the coverage the city has received on events here in Mineola.

SAFER ROADS
ROSES: We would like to thank the Smith County Road and Bridge Department for a very timely response in working to clean out the ditches and place reflectors in our area of County Road 2217 south of Whitehouse. You have made the roads much safer. The office staff who take the requests are always very friendly and helpful.

VOLUNTEERS APPRECIATED
ROSES: To the wonderful souls from Brookshire’s who volunteered their time this last Thursday night at the Advocates’ Fun Lovers dance. Your heart-felt efforts, smiles, and engagement with the special needs folks, were very much appreciated!
