4 race for Hutchison's seat; Gohmert seeks re-election

The race to replace U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, includes Republican Ted Cruz, Democrat Paul Sadler, Libertarian John J. Myers and David B. Collins of the Green Party.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, is seeking re-election against challengers Democrat Shirley J. McKellar and Libertarian Clark Patterson.

There are also races for Railroad Commissioner and Texas Supreme Court Justices.

District 1 State Sen. Kevin P. Eltife, R-Tyler, is seeking re-election against challenger Democrat Stephen H. Russell.

Republican Matt Schaefer and Libertarian Charles E. Parkes, III are seeking the State Representative District 6 seat. All other Smith County races, including those for county commissioner, sheriff and constable were decided during the party primaries.

Cherokee County voters will decide the race for District Attorney between incumbent Democrat Elmer Beckworth and Republican challenger Rachel Patton.

Henderson County voters will consider races between Republican and Democratic candidates for sheriff, county commissioner, tax as-sessor/collector and constable. They will also decide a proposition to replace the Henderson Count Emergency Services District No. 2 current maximum tax rate cap of 3 cents per $100 of appraised property valuation with a maximum tax rate cap of 6 cents per $100 of appraised property valuation which is allowed by Section 48-E, Article III, Texas Constitution. Van Zandt County voters will also decide races for sheriff and county commissioner between Republicans and Democrats. Chandler voters will consider two local option alcohol propositions for the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only and for the legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only.
