Angel is a sweet girl who has a smile that will melt your heart, and she never meets a stranger.

“Angel is just amazing, says Joni Lunsford, Court Appointed Special Advocates supervisor. “She has grown and blossomed and is thriving. She is a different child than she was a year ago.”

Lunsford says that this young girl was not healthy when she was removed from her home and placed in foster care. “Angel suffers from Type 1 Diabetes, which was not being controlled when she first came into care. It is now being managed. She knows how to make healthy food choices and it’s just amazing.”

Pointing to a little pink pouch on her hip Angel said, “I want them to know I’m on an insulin pump.”

Because of her medical condition, a healthy lifestyle and staying active is important to Angel.

“I like to go swimming. I like to ride my bike. I like to exercise. Power walking and jogging, that’s my favorite thing to do and I like to go to dance,” she says.

Angel turns 12 years old on Jan. 3. Right now she is enjoying the fifth grade. “It’s really fun. I like to do science and spelling.”

She is described as well-behaved, respectful and polite.

“She is funny. She’s very loving. She loves to give hugs,” says Lunsford. “She’s just a delight. I can’t think of anything negative to say about Angel.”

Angle is ready for a new life, but anxious while she waits. “I’m kind of sad because I’m a little scared about getting adopted,” she says.

Lunsford adds, “Angle asks all the time when is she going to have her forever family. She understands the process and she knows what it means.”

She also knows what she wants in a forever family.

“I want to be in a home with sisters and my very own room,” she says. “I also want one that will let me keep my dog who came into foster care with me. Her name is Star. She’s a Yorkie.”

It’s a little bit of her past to give her some comfort in her future.

“She’s just a great kid. She has a lot of love to give. She would be a blessing to anyone who had her in their home,” Lunsford says.
