Ambassador Hughes speaking tonight at Cowan Center event

Ambassador Karen Hughes will speak in Tyler tonight at a distinguished lecture series event.

The lecture, sponsored by Drs. Law-rence L. Anderson and Svetislava J. Vu-kelja, begins at 7:30 p.m. today at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Co-wan Fine and Performing Arts Center.

Ambassador Hu-ghes is a senior strategist who helps business leaders strengthen their corporate reputations, achieve business goals through communications, and shape positive public perceptions, according to a news release from UT Tyler.

From 2005 to 2007, she served as Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs visiting more than 50 countries.

From 2001 to 2002, she served as George W. Bush’s strategic adviser working on domestic and foreign policy issues and leading the White House Offices of Communications, Press Secretary, Media Affairs and Speechwriting, according to a bio on the Burson-Marsteller website.

She is worldwide vice chair for Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations and communications firm.

She is the author of “Ten Minutes from Normal,” a book about her experiences working for Bush.
