Garden lecture set for Tuesday
Smith County Master Gardeners will present the final “First Tuesday in the Garden,” lecture of the year at noon on Tuesday in the IDEA Garden at the Tyler Rose Garden.

This program is free and open to the public, organizers said.

Master Gardener Susan Linnard will present information on choosing the correct tree for landscape needs.

Late fall and winter is the perfect time to plant trees and shrubs. Planting in the cool months provides months of root growth without expending food usually spent on development of leaves and branches.

Linnard will talk about tree selection whether for ornamental use or for privacy and shade.

She will emphasize proper planting techniques to give trees a good start and provide handout literature.

The 2013 lecture series will begin again in March of 2013.

Master Gardeners is a volunteer organization of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in which trained volunteers teach others about gardening, plant diseases and pests.
