Van ISD was under district lockdown in response to a police investigation in the community, according to a district statement. The Tyler Paper has confirmed through police sources that it was because kidnapping/slaying suspect James Calvert was possibly sighted in the area.
Students and staff were in no immediate danger and the district implemented the lockdown as a precautionary measure, according to the statement.
Students will be released and buses will run as soon as police have given the all clear, according to the statement.
