East Texans receive local poetry awards

A free open-house event at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches is scheduled for Nov. 10.
At the Showcase Saturday event, prospective students can visit with university faculty and staff; tour the campus and residence halls; and preview academic programs, according to a university news release.
Guests can talk one-on-one with faculty to learn about the academic programs, and staff will be available to answer questions about a variety of issues including admissions, financial aid and residence life, according to the news release.
Registration is from noon to 1 p.m. the day of the event on the Baker Pattillo Student Center's first floor.
The opening program begins at 1 p.m. and will provide an overview of the day's events. Activities will follow.
In addition to the upcoming event, two more Showcase Saturdays are scheduled for Feb. 23 and April 6, 2013.
