Chandler man charged in assault identified

The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office released the name of a man accused of assaulting a woman, stealing her car and fleeing from officers.

David Wayne Taylor, 26, of Chandler was arrested and charged with evading arrest and aggravated robbery. His bond had not been set as of press time.

The sheriff's office received a call around 9:30 p.m. Thursday that an unknown man assaulted a woman in the Callendar Lake community and drove away in her 2005 Toyota Camry, according to information released by the Van Zandt County Sherriff's Office.

On Saturday, an anonymous tip led police to the Enchanted Lakes area where the vehicle was spotted. After a brief pursuit, the driver fled on foot into wooded areas off County Road 4908.

The sheriff's office, the Department of Public Safety, Canton and Van police and two county constables aided in the search for the suspect into the night.

On Sunday, Van Police responded to a suspicious person call off County Road 4908. Taylor allegedly ran from officers a second time but was apprehended,

Taylor was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained while hiding in the woods overnight before he was booked into jail.
