Van Zandt vehicle theft suspect in custody
From Staff and KTYX CBS19 reports

A man accused of invading the home of an elderly woman, stole her car and ran from police in Van Zandt County was in custody Sunday evening.

Van Zandt County Sherriff Pat Burnett said the woman sustained injuries during the theft, but he did not know the extent of her injuries.

The man led deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers on a chase Saturday when they spotted the stolen car. He eventually bailed out of the vehicle and proceeded to run on foot, Burnett said.

He ran through the night and was found Sunday morning.

“Police got a call about a suspicious person, and when they responded, they found the thief,” Burnett said.

The man tried to run a second time but was apprehended by the Van Police Department.

“They did an excellent job of getting him even though he ran (again) this morning,” Burnett said.

Burnett said the man needed medical attention and was taken to the hospital before he was booked into jail. His name was not released as of press time.
