1 dead and 1 injured in husband's suicide, attempted killing of wife

A woman was shot by her husband who then turned the gun on himself at their home east of Mineola on County Road 2661 Friday evening, a Smith County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

A woman was shot by her husband who then turned the gun on himself at their home east of Mineola on County Road 2661 Friday evening, a Smith County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
Lt. Larry Wiginton said a woman was shot by her husband during a domestic disturbance. The husband then shot himself.
Wiginton said the woman was alive when emergency responders arrived. The husband died at the scene, he said.

Wiginton said he did not know the extent of the woman’s injuries or where she was receiving treatment. He said he could not release the name of the victim or the shooter until the family was notified.
“It was a family disturbance that went bad,” he said.
