Police respond to commercial burglary surge

Tyler police continue to investigate a rash of commercial burglaries that happened early Wednesday.

According to a press release, officers responded to a burglary call about 2 a.m. Wednesday at the Laundry Room, 1811 ESE Loop 323, and located a broken window on the business.

As officers investigated, two people were stopped nearby. The investigation continued and the two suspects — Lucarus Butler, 20, and Matthew Taylor, 17, both of Tyler — were arrested for possession of a criminal instrument and attempted burglary. Butler and Taylor were still in jail Wednesday afternoon on bonds totaling $20,000 each.

An hour later, officers responded to a burglary call at XLN, 2109 E. Fifth St., and Mama's Restaurant, 2105 E. Fifth St., where they located broken windows at both businesses.

About 4:25 a.m., officers answered another burglary call at Midway Food Mart, 533 S. Broadway Ave. and Damarian Amie, 18, was apprehended nearby and arrested for attempted burglary.

The press release states that police later discovered another business Taqueria El Lugar 3, 2121 E. Fifth St., was burglarized and evidence that was recovered on Amie linked him to the burglary.

Amie was still in jail Wednesday afternoon on bonds totaling $160,000.
