A woman, who police say pretended to be a police officer, has been apprehended and is now in the Smith County Jail on charges of impersonating an officer.

Police say the woman asked several Hispanic men if they wanted to have sexual relations with her and after going to another location she produced a badge and asked for their identification before leaving with their wallets and money.

Don Martin, Tyler Police Department's public information officer, said 39-year-old Jennifer Louise Cowser was arrested this morning in court as she appeared on an unrelated drug charge.

“We were able to act on some leads and identify her and we served a search warrant on her home yesterday where we found clothing matching that which was seen in the video surveillance,” he said.

Martin said the woman has been charged with the two felony counts of impersonating an officer and may face additional charges later in the day.

Cowser is being held on bonds totaling $300,000.

Tyler Paper will have more details on this story as they become available.
