Senior Health and Living Expo Wednesday at Harvey Center
The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Senor Health and Living Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harvey Convention Center, 2000 W. Front St.

More than 75 exhibitors have signed up to showcase their goods and services to attendees. There also will be gift card giveaways for participants.

Heart specialist talks irregular heartbeats at Hawkins seminar
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will host “A-Fib: When Your Heart Doesn’t Beat Like It’s Supposed To,” a free seminar at noon Thursday at the Hawkins Community Center, 301 Lynch St. in Hawkins.

Individuals can get answers to questions about their irregular heartbeat and light-headed episodes at the “Dine with our Doctors” seminar.

Dr. Sam K. Daya, an invasive cardiologist at the health science center, will explain how atrial fibrillation, or a-fib, is diagnosed, treated and controlled. He will discuss how untreated a-fib can cause blood clots and weaken the heart, resulting in heart failure and stroke.

Free diabetes classes to start Oct. 30 at health science center
A series of free Empower Diabetes classes at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, will help people who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. The classes feature up-to-date information about the latest advances in diabetes care. The goal of the Empower program is to teach patients how to manage diabetes.

The four-part sessions begins Oc.t 30 in Hudnall Auditorium on the health science center campus, 11937 U.S. Highway 271 in Tyler, at the corner of U.S. 271 and Texas Highway 155.
Each free session is offered from 9 to 11 a.m. on successive Tuesdays: Oct. 30, Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20.

Sessions cover various topics, including high and low blood sugar, meal planning, glucose monitoring, exercise and diabetes, medications and insulin administration and foot care.
