Rose parade, Queen's Tea to cap royal weekend

More than 130 units — including floats carrying Queen's Court members — will take part in the Texas Rose Festival Parade this morning.
And then in the afternoon, the rose queen and her court will greet guests at the Queen's Tea in the Tyler Rose Garden.
The parade steps off at 9 a.m. beginning at Glenwood Boulevard and Front Street. The route continues west on Front, turns left through the East Texas State Fairgrounds and ends inside Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
Many streets near the parade route will be blocked before and during the parade. Glenwood Boulevard immediately north and south of Front Street is used as a staging area. Parking is available near Rose Stadium.
A pre-parade show will take place inside Rose Stadium beginning at 9 a.m.
The parade is organized and staged by The Strutters, a group of volunteers.
The lineup includes dignitaries, marching bands, cheerleaders, drill teams, school and civic groups, Shriners parade units, clowns, equestrian groups and vintage automobiles and trucks.

The float carrying Rose Queen Haley Anderson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rowe Anderson, will be the last to be presented. Another float will carry Duchess of the Rose Festival Joy Lynn Ramey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry King Ramey.
The floats all will be decorated to carry out the festival's Asian-inspired theme “Indochine: Year of the Dragon.”
Special participants in the parade will include a delegation from Yachiyo, Japan, a Sister City partner to Tyler; and several contestants in the Miss Senior America Pageant. The Tyler Junior College Apache Band and the Apache Belles will lead the procession. Several equestrian groups, including the Texas Spirit Riders Rodeo Drill Team are among the final units.

QUEEN'S TEA
The Queen's Tea is set from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Tyler Rose Garden's center court.
Miss Anderson, Miss Ramey, the ladies-in-waiting and the queen's young attendants will greet guests from under pagodas and tents on the lawn.
The queen will be seated in a large three-tiered pagoda with a red roof adorned with dragons and lanterns. Her attendants will be positioned in smaller pagodas on each side.
Miss Ramey will greet guests under a large tent with Asian accents near the garden's center fountains. The ladies-in-waiting will be on platforms near the center court area.
The Queen's Tea presents the best opportunity for the public to get a close look at the fancy Coronation attire, including the queen's flowing train.
Adding to the ambiance, an oversized Chinese celebration dragon will pop in and out of a raised bed of roses.
Guests also will be treated to refreshments and music from an ensemble positioned on the balcony overlooking the garden. Guests also can tour the garden, which includes more than 30,000 rose bushes within the 14-acre complex.
Inside the Rose Garden Center, guests will be able to tour the Rose Show, the Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs' Standard Flower Show and the Rose Museum. The festival's arts and crafts show and plant sale takes place today at Bergfeld Park.
