Tyler police are investigating a robbery near The University of Texas at Tyler that left one man injured after he was beaten by his attackers.

Don Martin, Tyler police spokesman, said officers were dispatched to the East Texas Medical Center emergency room early Tuesday for a robbery victim who was assaulted.

Martin said the victim, a Tyler Junior College student who was beaten about the face and head with a gun, told officers he and his roommate and the roommate’s girlfriend were in his apartment at Varsity Place when there was a knock at the door.

The victim said he opened the door and saw three black males standing in his doorway. The men forced their way into the apartment and held him at gunpoint demanding his cash.

“The suspects, who had their faces covered with masks, struck the victim several times about his face and head with guns that resulted in serious bodily injury,” Martin said.

Police said the men entered the roommate’s room and forced him and his girlfriend into the bathroom during the robbery. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area on foot.

Anyone with information about the men involved in this crime are urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597- 2833.
