Fugitive arrested following short chase
With officers at his front door Tuesday morning, authorities said Joshua Cook decided to run out the back door and into a wooded area as his brother ran interference, but an hour later he was in custody and on his way to the Smith County Jail.
Smith County Adult Probation Fugitive Task Force Officer John Brown said he and his partner went to serve a felony warrant on Joshua Cook Tuesday morning at a home on Winona Street, but were stonewalled by the man's brother.
“While his brother ran interference and held us up, Cook ran out of the back door of the home and made his way into a wooded area near Tyler Steel off of East Gentry Parkway,” Brown said.
As Brown and his partner searched the area, other officers from the Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff's Office, Smith County Precinct 5 Constable's Office and U.S. Marshals responded to offer assistance in locating the fugitive.
The officers quickly set up a perimeter and eventually caught Cook about 45 minutes after he fled from the home.

Brown said Cook was wanted on a felony physical tampering with evidence warrant and would be booked into the Smith County Jail.
“When they run, then they become a danger to the community and it's important for us to act quickly to get them into custody,” a U.S. marshal at the scene said.
Brown said the shirtless Cook was captured near the railroad tracks east of the Beckham Avenue bridge.
Gerald Hayden, probation director, said his office charged Cook with evading due to his running and is discussing possible charges against Cook's brother for obstructing an investigation.
Late Tuesday, Cook was being held in jail on no bond.
