Tyler police are investigating a robbery near the University of Texas at Tyler that left one man injured after he was beaten by his attackers.

Don Martin, Tyler Police public information officer, said officers were dispatched to the East Texas Medical Center emergency room early this morning in regards to a robbery victim who had been assaulted.

Martin said the victim, a Tyler Junior College student who was beat about the face and head with a gun, told officers he and his roommate and the roommate's girlfriend were in his apartment at Varsity Place when there was a knock at the door.

The victim said he opened the door and observed three black males standing in his doorway. The suspects forced their way into the apartment and held him at gunpoint demanding his cash.

“The suspects who had their faces covered with masks, struck the victim several times about his face and head with guns that resulted in serious bodily injury,” Martin said.

Police said the suspects entered into the victim’s room-mate's room and forced him and his girlfriend into the bathroom during the robbery. The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area on foot.

Anyone with information about the suspects involved in this crime are urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597- 2833.
