East Texas troops finish basic

ARMY
Army Pfc. MaKayle B. Holmes graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, the military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Holmes, daughter of Dana and Scott Holmes, of Tyler, is a 2011 graduate of Winona High School.


AIR FORCE
Air Force Airman 1st Class Doris Z. Felix, Air Force Airman Dyllan W. Lewis, Air Force Reserve Airman Joshua B. Sutton and Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Andew C. Thigpen graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Felix, a graduate of John Tyler High School, is the daughter of Paquita Felix, and sister of Diana Gandarilla, both of Tyler.

Lewis, a graduate of Lindale High School is the grandson of Veron and Betty Powell of Tyler.

Sutton, a graduate of Whitehouse High School, is the son of Beth Sutton of Tyler.

Thigpen, an honor graduate, is the son of M’Liss Taylor, of Tyler and Charlie Thigpen of Bristow, Va.
