Margaret Sunshine Perdue Brown
Margaret Sunshine Perdue Brown, born in Tyler on April 14, 1920, died of natural causes on Oct. 11, 2012, in Bastrop. Her beloved husband of 47 years, Wilbur Wesley Brown,
preceded her in death in 1991. Margaret’s parents, Tinsley Tanner Perdue and Margaret Lula Wilson Perdue, and older brother, Tanner Wilson Perdue, all of Tyler, also preceded her in death.

As a teenager, Margaret was a charter member of the Tyler Symphony Orchestra (later, the East Texas Symphony), playing second violin. She also was the organist of Cedar Street Methodist Church. She graduated fourth in her class from Tyler High School in 1938 and received a Business Degree from the Federal Institute. She was employed by Delta Drilling in the Land Department until her marriage to Wilbur on April 6, 1946. Margaret and Wilbur lived in Elizabethtown, Ky., and Los Angeles, Calif., until 1949 when they moved to Fort Worth and lived there for 43 years.
In Fort Worth, Margaret’s love of music kept her busy directing the Children’s Choir and singing alto in the Chancel Choir at River Oaks Methodist Church. She played the piano at various nursing homes and Harris Hospital and was a member of the Music Club of Fort Worth. Once her youngest daughter started school, she attended Texas Christian University, majoring in English literature. In 1962 she was initiated into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Fraternity. Margaret also faithfully volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Harris Hospital, earning awards for her accumulation of 2,000 hours.
In 1992 Margaret moved back to Tyler, where she joined Marvin United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano before the 11 a.m. service and singing in the Grown-ups choir. She was a member of Tyler Music Coterie, Higation Bible Study and played violin with the East Texas Symphony.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Margy) Dale Brown Clark of Houston and Barbara Kathleen (Kathy) Brown Watts of Cedar Creek; sons-in-law: Randall (Randy) Dean Clark and Alan Wagner Watts; grandchildren, Sarah JoAnne Clark Fernandezlopez, Matthew Daniel Clark, Nina Lee Watts Harrison, Jesse Tanner Watts, William Perry Watts and Faron Brown Watts; grandchildren’s spouses, Esteban Thomas Fernandezlopez, Lena Gwendolyn Hill Clark and Jeremy Harrison; great-grandchildren, Isaac Sulghee Fernandezlopez, Margaret Shea Marie Clark and Seamus Nathaniel Harrison. Margaret is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Perdue of Houston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wilbur Wesley Brown Spiritual Formation Endowment at Marvin United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of Marvin UMC at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, followed by visitation in Fellowship Hall. Family graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.
