Citywide garage sale slated for Saturday
Shoppers will have plenty of items and collectibles to choose from during the fourth annual Whitehouse citywide garage sale this weekend.
The event, sponsored by Keep Whitehouse Beautiful, is scheduled for Saturday. Some sales could start as early as 7 a.m., but many are expected to start between 7 and 8 a.m., and last through mid-afternoon.
More than 40 locations had signed up as of Tuesday afternoon, and at least 20 more garage sales are expected to participate, said Angela Klein, vice president of Keep Whitehouse Beautiful and the event coordinator.
One of the sale locations will be the Whitehouse flea market on Texas Highway 110, just south of Farm-to-Market Road 346.
Some locations also are doing multi-family sales, and a new business, Whitehouse Appliance, plans to have its own sale.
Ms. Klein said a great variety of items will be sold, including Christmas decorations, antiques and Coca-Cola items.
“It looks like somebody has some iron rockers, single and double, and it's the usual Christmas stuff, antiques, furniture, (and) somebody's got some old record albums,” she said.
The City of Whitehouse did the event the first year as a way of bringing in revenue, she said, but Keep Whitehouse Beautiful is doing it now because it gives residents an opportunity to reuse and recycle items.
“I just kind of feel like it's almost taken a life of its own. We get people calling before we even set a date (for the event). I really hope we can continue doing this year after year because I think people get a great benefit out of it ...” she said.
“We think that's a great thing, instead of throwing things away, if you can get someone else to purchase it and use it.”
She said those holding garage sales will be encouraged to contact Goodwill or the Salvation Army if they have items left over on Saturday.

By Friday, there should also be a link to a PDF document that residents can print, which will show all of the garage sale locations in geographical order.
