Hogg students learn flag-raising
Staff Reports

The Tyler Woman's Forum is partnering with a local middle school to teach patriotism and meet a responsibility.

Four Hogg Middle School students will participate in daily flag ceremonies at The Woman's Building flagpole.

Eighth-graders Cesar Alvarez, 13; Robert Quijano, 14; Parker Rathbun, 13; and Kurt Swisher, 13, are responsible for raising and lowering the U.S. and Texas flags outside the building, 911 S. Broadway Ave.

Staff Sgt. Chad Latta, of the U.S. Air Force recruiting office in Tyler, provided ceremonial instructions last week.

These instructions included how to carry, raise, lower and fold the flags, according to a news release from the Tyler Woman's Forum.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, provided the American flag, which flew over the nation's Capitol. State Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, provided the Texas flag.
