Tyler ISD donated hundreds of books to Azleway Boys Ranch in Tyler.
Because of that, Vanessa Choice, director of alternative programs at Plyler, decided to donate the books to Azleway to help start a library there.
“Any time you can help kids, it is definitely an opportunity you want to take advantage of,” Ms. Choice said.
Run/Walk-A-Thon Saturday at Wiley
On-site registration is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. at the college, followed by an 8:15 a.m. start for the run/walk, according to a college news release.
The race will begin at the intersection of Wiley Avenue and University Avenue.
The race entry fee is $5 for Wiley College students and $10 for the general public.
The annual event benefits the Haywood L. Strickland Presidential Scholarship Fu-nd and is designed to assist academically talented and deserving students who attend Wiley College, while promoting good health and physical fitness, according to the news release.

Annual quilt show dated for Canton
The show, “Butterflies are Free,” is set from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $3 for adults.
The show will feature about 100 quilts as well as wall hangings, baby quilts and other quilted items, the announcement said.
There also will be vendors, demonstrations and an exhibit by the East Texas Embroidery Guild.
Patrons can register to win a quilt in a drawing that will raise money for charitable organizations, the announcement said.
Texas Star Quilters Guild meets at 1:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at Canton Senior Citizens Building.
