Mary Lee Glaspie
Funeral services for Mary Lee Sims Glaspie, 83, of Tyler, are scheduled at Stewart Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at 3 p.m. with Dr. Chris Pulliam, senior minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.

Mrs. Glaspie passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012. She was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Lindale to Jim and Ollie Mae Mallory Sims.

Mary graduated from Tyler High School in 1946. She married JB Glaspie on May 17, 1947 at the First Methodist Church of Overton. Mrs. Glaspie worked various jobs until her first child, Cynthia Lea, was born in 1950. She spent the next 20-plus years teaching her kids, Cynthia and Stephen, the essentials of life. Once they went off to college, she returned to work with her husband at JB Glaspie Motors, as the bookkeeper.

She supported JB through the years with hosting many functions and activities associated with the Sharon Shrine Temple, while being a member of the Daughters of the Nile.

Mary was a longtime, active member of Glenwood Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader. She was a current member of First Christian Church.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ollie Mae Mallory Sims; sister, Barcie Mae Sims Braly; and son, Stephen Glaspie.

She is survived by loving husband of 65 years, JB Glaspie of Tyler; brother, James Sims of Willis; daughter, Cynthia Nance and husband Greg of Tyler; their children, David Nance and wife Stefny and kids Weston and Wells of Aledo; Jon Nance and wife Emily and kids Michael and Drew of Coppell; and Susan Soward and husband Ryan and kids Karson, Carter and Caroline of Tyler. Also she is survived by grandson, Joseph Glaspie, son of the late Stephen Glaspie, and wife Jennifer of Round Rock.

Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Bryce Braly, Joseph Glaspie, David Nance, Jon Nance, Tosh Roberts, Ryan Soward and Kirk Story.

Honorary pallbearers include all Nobles and Ladies of Sharon Shrine Temple.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the capital campaign fund at First Christian Church, 4202 S. Broadway, Tyler, Texas, 75701.
