Nonprofit to raise money with workout
East Texans can participate today in an “On Your Feet” Nia Jam workout to raise money for the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation.
The nonprofit organization benefits those with spinal cord injuries.
The workout is set from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Balance, 116 W. Erwin St., Tyler.
Organizers suggest a $20 donation from participants.
Session leaders will be Kate Finlayson, of Folsom, La., Julie Wylie, of Austin, and Mary Mickens, of Texarkana, former Tyler resident Ms. Finlayson said.
Nia is an exercise that draws from the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts, organizers said.
Ms. Finlayson said she is grateful to share her passion of Nia to help Lone Star Paralysis Foundation.
Her brother, Bud, was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident in April 1976.
Similar fundraising Nia sessions are being held in other cities, organizers said.
