The Rusk Chamber of Commerce invites residents to enjoy the various activities, contests and entertainment offered this weekend during the Cherokee County Fair.

All festivities take place at the Rusk KOA Campground, 745 Farm-to-Market Road 343 in Rusk.

Today, two live bands will perform, said Bob Goldsberry, executive director of the chamber.

Headliner Tejas Brothers performs at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, fair gates open at 9 a.m., with arts and crafts vendors and food vendors throughout the day. According to the chamber website, there also will be a kids’ area.

Goldsberry said judging for the barbecue cook-off will begin in the afternoon, and the “Cherokee County has Talent” contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Cash prizes will be given to the winners, with $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.

Anyone can enter the contest, whether their talent is singing, dancing or something else, Goldsberry said.

Contestants may sign up the day of the event. A jam and jelly contest also is scheduled for the fair.

Goldsberry said anyone interested in entering the contest can register on Saturday.

On Saturday evening, more bands will perform beginning at 5 p.m., including Dazed and Ali Dee, who have been on Country Music Television.

Fair admission is $5 per person. Ages 6 and younger are free.

“People can come out Saturday morning, enjoy the fair and the vendors then come back that night,” Goldsberry said. “It’s a great day for everyone to get out and enjoy the weather and have some fun.”
