Record set for registered block parties for Tuesday
Staff Reports

Tyler residents have set a record this year for registered block parties during the upcoming Texans Against Crime event.

The annual event is set for 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. The Tyler Police Department has registered 95 residential block and apartment complex parties for the day, according to a police department news release.

Last year, Tyler had about 90 block parties citywide to promote the program.

These totals do not include businesses that participate throughout the day.

People still can register their block parties by calling the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1096, or registering online at www. tylerpolice.com.

The Texans Against Crime program is an annual event designed to unite neighbors and communities to encourage neighborhood communication, community involvement and crime prevention, according to the news release.

The program encourages neighborhoods and businesses to have block parties as an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors and fight crime.
