Tyler Chamber introduces new leaders, names life members
Abigail Duty and Michael Harrison were named Johnny Wright Life Membership recipients Tuesday.
Ms. Duty and Harrison were recognized at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting.
Jerry Woolverton, the outgoing chairman of the chamber's Board of Directors, said it has been an honor to serve as chairman for the past year.
“I've been very humbled by the unbelievable work of all the volunteers who have made this a success,” he said. “I feel so humbled and honored that you gave me the tremendous opportunity” to serve.
Woolverton introduced incoming chairwoman Mary Elizabeth Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson, vice president of Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics and president of the Trinity Mother Frances Foundation, was elected by the chamber's board of directors to serve as 2012-13 chairwoman.
Mrs. Jackson, in turn, presented Woolverton, president of Texas Bank and Trust, with a plaque for his past year of service as chairman of the chamber.
“This is probably one of the proudest moments I have had,” Mrs. Jackson said of taking over the post of chairwoman. “I am deeply honored to be elected to serve…”
She said the chamber is an exciting place to be. “This year is the year of volunteers,” she said. “We're going to focus on giving back to our community …”

Rosemary Jones, an attorney and partner at Ramey & Flock law firm, was elected to serve as chairwoman-elect.
Chamber officers also were recognized during the dinner.
Chamber officers for 2012-13 include: Dawn Franks, Tim Drain, Charles Hill, Kay Latta and BJ Hornbostel. Executive Committee-at-large members include Claude Henry, Mark McDaniel, Ed Thompson, Michael Lujan and Tom Ellis.
The seven new board members include Dave Berry, Nancy Crawford, Diane DeVasto, Debbie Isham, Howard Patterson, George Roberts and Pamela Walters.
Woolverton recognized seven members who served their three-year terms and will be rotating off of the board of directors. They were: Brian Brandt, David Hudson, Ed King, Dr. Mike Metke, Skip Ogle, Pat Stacey and John Sykes.
Mrs. Jackson also recognized Tom Mullins, the chamber's president and chief executive officer, and Henry Bell, chief operating officer, as well as all of the chamber staff.
