Tyler police and a Smith County Sheriff’s K9 unit searched for burglars Tuesday evening after a resident in the 2100 block of Woodlands Drive came home to find two men inside.

Tyler police were dispatched to the home in the Hollytree West subdivision a little after 5 p.m.

The resident reported that he came home to find two men in his home, who went out the back door and jumped over the fence, police said. There was little description available, only that the two men were black – with one appearing to be in his 20s and the other in his 30s.

Tyler police and the Smith County K9 unit searched the area actively for about an hour and a half until the search was called off about 6:30 p.m.

“We searched as thoroughly as we could,” Sgt. Paul Robeson, of the Tyler Police Department, said.

The search included a wooded area north of the home as well as other parts of the neighborhood.

A woman who lives in the home, who did not want to give her name, described the home as being ransacked.
