“We’ve only been in here about a minute, and we’re already uncomfortable,” Becky Duncan, community outreach coordinator for PATH, said. “Many children wait at a bus stop much longer than this.”
PATH’s annual collection of children’s coats will be held through the month of October.
Mrs. Duncan emphasized that this is one initiative that can be totally free for donors.
“These cold snaps remind parents to take out their children’s coat and see if it still fits,” she said. “They can take the coats to participating dry cleaners completely free of charge.”
Participating cleaners will have a Coats for Kids sign in the window, Mrs. Duncan said.
New coats will be accepted at the PATH office, 402 W. Front St. Monetary donations also will be accepted at the PATH office and online at pathhelps.org.
The goal for this year is to collect 3,000 coats, Mrs. Duncan said. Last year the organization gave away 3,700, either during the distribution days directly to families or to other nonprofits the agency partners with.
