Lindale organizes health fair Tuesday
Staff Reports

A community health fair for Lindale residents is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lindale Junior High School, 15000 County Road 463.

The Lindale ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is putting on the event with support from numerous area agencies.

Doctors and local organizations will provide information on topics such as diabetes, obesity, dental hygiene, athletic improvement and sports medicine with a focus on head injuries. Health screenings will be conducted.

Fleming/Tindel Medicine Chest will provide flu shots for a fee, according to a school district news release. Call the store at 903-882-3158 for pricing information.

Local law enforcement agencies will lead sessions on gun and fire safety, sexting and texting, and drug and alcohol awareness.

Lifetouch Photography, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI will present information about student identification and the Smile Safe Kids program, according to the news release.

Social issues affecting students and adults will be addressed through sessions on coping with depression and anxiety, healthy relationships, Internet and social networking safety and talking or texting while driving.

Lindale ISD’s Child Nutrition Department will provide updates about changes to federal nutrition requirements for school lunches.

Lindale Junior High School students will write, produce, film and edit public service announcements about topics covered at the health fair. The PSAs will be displayed in the junior high library. Exercise activities such as Zumba and fitness routines from Anytime Fitness will be demonstrated in the school’s gymnasium.

“We want the community to know that this event is not just for junior high students or parents of Lindale students,” SHAC advisor Belinda Neal said, according to the news release. “Our goal is to educate and support the health and social lives of all members of the Lindale community. We hope that we can inspire healthy life choices in all those who call this area home.”
