Christian store 'The Scroll' to donate part of sales
Staff Reports
Visitors to The Scroll Christian Discount Store will have extra opportunities this week to use their shopping for charitable causes as part of Christian Store Week today through Oct. 6.
The store, which donates its proceeds to East Texas ministries and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, will host a community food drive in cooperation with East Texas Food Bank all week.
“Because of the continuing recession and continued high unemployment, there is a growing need for local families and children to rely on community support,” David Rooker, manager of The Scroll, said in a written release. “We want to help meet that need.”

A CD compilation will be available for a donation to raise awareness of the need for food assistance and support World Vision U.S. food and anti-poverty programs.
The 18-title CD, “Lift Up: Artists and Authors Unite to Feed America's Hungry Children,” features Christian songs and books. Musicians, artists, authors, retailers, and publishers have donated royalties and all fees and profits plus provided in-kind services, so 100 percent of donations for the CD go toward program support.
To kick off the week, the store will host its annual KVNE Day today, when 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the Christian radio station.
Local author Donna Paul also will present her book, “A Song in Every Silence.”
